OUR YOUNG MEN'S SERMONS

The Mill Creek Church of Christ has a long and storied history when it comes to helping train young men to preach the Gospel of Christ. The congregation, which can trace its beginnings as far back as 1884, has always had a soft spot in its heart for those men—young or old—who want to use their talents to help spread the good news about salvation.

To that end, the Mill Creek congregation has opened both its door and its heart to those who have a desire to preach, and has provided a proving ground of sorts to those who needed a place to “get their feet wet” or “test their mettle” as they prepared and presented sermons. Some of the young men who have spoken at Mill Creek can quite literally say that they gave their very first public lesson within the confines of the small, rural building in which the congregation currently meets. And a number of those youngsters grew up to be not only faithful Christians, but also Gospel preachers!

The tradition of training young men to serve the Lord in a public way is very much “alive and well” at Mill Creek. Currently, there are three young men—Blake Brown, Justin Stuntz, and Tyler Mullins—who speak regularly at Mill Creek’s worship services, in addition to reading Scriptures and leading singing. Those of us who are members are Mill Creek have seen these three youngsters grow, mature, and flourish as they have created and presented their lessons. It is by no means an exaggeration to say that the boys have done a truly outstanding job with each of their presentations. And it is a mild understatement to say that the Mill Creek members have been richly blessed by every one of those presentations. The young men take their role in public leadership at Mill Creek very seriously. And it shows in everything they do—whether it is the professional way they handle God’s Word as they read it aloud before the congregation, the confident approach they use to lead singing, or the powerful and persuasive manner in which they present their sermons.

As Blake, Justin, and Tyler progressed in their efforts, and as they began to realize and utilize more of their talents, some of us at Mill Creek thought that the time had come to share some of the fruits of their labors with the rest of the world. Fortunately, the World Wide Web and the Internet make that not only possible, but also fairly simple. As a result, we came up with the idea of putting the boys’ lessons on the Mill Creek Website. We asked the young men and their parents if this would be agreeable to them, and they gave their approval.

So, it is with great pleasure that we make the boys' sermons available to you via our Website. There is no doubt in our minds that you will be blessed by what you read here—just as we have been blessed by hearing the boys make their presentations in person. As the young men continue to grow “in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18), and as they, like the young Jesus they are trying to emulate, continue to grow “in favor with God and men” (Luke 2:52), we will continue to post their sermons on this Website. We, of course, get to see their visible and impressive progress on a weekly basis. We invite you to return to our Website frequently to enjoy the boys' new future offerings that we will be posting. As you do, we suspect that you, too, will come to realize the progress they are making as they mature in the faith. We are very proud of these young men, and we want to do everything within our power to help them recognize and develop their God-given talents so that they can put them to use in Christ’s kingdom, both now and in the years to come.
